UK sockets and switches fix into the back box with M3.5 screws. The length depends on the box depth and any spacers. 35mm and 40mm suit most standard faceplates, and the 75 and 100mm lengths help when a back box is set deep in the wall.
An 8 gauge wood screw is a good all round size for fixing back boxes, consumer units and boards to timber. Use 3/4 or 1 1/4 inch for boxes and thin boards, and 2 or 3 inch to fix through plasterboard or into studs and noggins.
A twinthread screw has two threads running down the shank, so it drives into timber faster than a single thread screw and grips well. The Pozi countersunk head sits flush with the surface.
BZP stands for bright zinc plated. The zinc coating protects the screw from rust indoors. For outdoor or damp areas, a stainless or other weather resistant screw is a better choice.
Brass M4 pan head slot screws are used on terminals, earth connections and fittings where a non rusting, conductive screw is useful. We stock them in 12, 16, 20 and 25mm lengths, in packs of 100.
