Hager metal clad wiring accessories come supplied with their own back box, so each one is ready to fit straight onto the wall.

The range covers a 1 gang 2 way light switch, 1 and 2 gang switched sockets, and switched and unswitched connection units with flex outlets for fixed appliances.

Metal clad is the usual choice for garages, workshops, outbuildings and commercial plant areas where surface wiring needs extra protection.

Do Hager metal clad accessories come with a back box?

Yes. Every item in this range is supplied with its own metal back box, ready to surface mount. The 1 gang units are 86 x 86mm and the 2 gang socket is 146mm wide, all around 51mm deep.

Where should I use metal clad sockets and switches?

Use metal clad where surface wiring could take a knock: garages, workshops, outbuildings, plant rooms and commercial back of house areas. Metal clad is not weatherproof, so for outside walls choose an IP rated weatherproof accessory instead.

Are the Hager metal clad sockets double pole?

Yes. The WPSS81BKO 1 gang and WPSS82BKO 2 gang are 13A double pole switched sockets, so the switch breaks both live and neutral.

Which Hager metal clad unit do I need for a fixed appliance?

Use a 13A fused connection unit with a flex outlet. The WPSSU83FOBKO is switched, so you can isolate the appliance locally. The WPSU83FOBKO is unswitched, for appliances that should stay on, like a freezer or an alarm panel.

Does a metal clad accessory need to be earthed?

Yes. The metal box and faceplate are exposed metal, so the circuit protective conductor must be connected to the earth terminal in the box.
