A U box has two entries side by side on the same face, so the conduit can come in and go back out the same way. It is handy for looping a run out to a point and back.
A Y box is a three way box where the two branch entries leave at an angle rather than at 90 degrees, so a run can split in two directions without a sharp tee.
BS 4568 is the long standing British standard for steel conduit and fittings with metric threads. BS EN 61386 is the current European standard for conduit systems. Metpro boxes are made to both, so they match standard UK steel conduit.
Both are galvanised malleable iron. Our Metpro range covers the boxes, including the U box and Y box. Our Conlok range adds couplers and female adaptors, so most jobs use both.
