It comes down to mounting height. High bays are built for tall spaces, roughly 6 metres and above, such as warehouses, factories and sports halls, and use tighter optics to throw light down to the floor. Low bays suit lower ceilings under about 6 metres, like workshops and retail units, with a wider spread at shorter range.

It depends on the task. As a rough guide, a general office wants around 300 to 500 lux, warehouse and storage areas around 150 to 200 lux, and detailed or workshop tasks more. Work from the target lux for the space times the floor area to get the total lumens, or send us the room sizes and we will help spec it.

An LED panel is a slim recessed fitting, usually 600 x 600mm or 1200 x 600mm, that drops straight into a suspended grid ceiling. It gives flat, even, low-glare light and is the standard choice for offices, receptions, schools, surgeries and retail.

On escape routes, above final exits and in stairwells, yes. Those areas need battery-backup emergency fittings or a dedicated emergency system to stay lit in a power cut, which is a compliance requirement. See our emergency lighting range for the maintained and non-maintained options.

IP20 is fine for clean, dry offices and shops. Step up to IP65 for dusty warehouses, cold stores, car parks, canopies and any washdown or damp area, where the fitting needs to be sealed against dust and water jets.
